Kathak

Kathak is one of the eight prominent styles of Indian classical dance. Its roots trace back to the wandering bards of northern India, known as *Kathakars* or “storytellers,” who narrated tales from Hindu epics and mythology through music, songs, and expressive movements. A Kathak performance combines intricate footwork, graceful gestures, fluid body movements, and rich facial expressions to portray stories and emotions. Over time, the art form developed into distinct traditions called *gharanas*, primarily associated with Jaipur, Banaras, and Lucknow. Today, Kathak is celebrated worldwide as one of India’s most admired and culturally significant dance forms.
